Presidential Metaphors
As a writer, I know a good one when I see one.
The reason I decided to post a quick story about my garden today instead of what I really wanted to talk about was that my brilliant idea was stolen.
Such is life in the fast-moving world of “criticizing the Trump Administration.”
After a week of one embarrassing event after another (the UFC fight, the tarp in front of the Kennedy Center, and the “deal” with Iran), I was writing a post where the absolute perfect metaphor for Trump came to be.
It’s not like we need to improve on “dumpster fire” or “trainwreck,” but it’s always nice to have new ones, just in case the old ones get overused. And what could be more perfect than the “Reflecting Pool” now that Trump “fixed it.”
It’s everything Trump is:
It’s over budget by at least three times what he said it would cost (I think, in Trump math, that’s 900%).
Once complete, Trump sycophants breathlessly took to social media to show how “new and improved” the pool was – except the pool wasn’t filled yet, so they used old pictures and changed the tint (you could tell they were the same shot as the clouds in the sky and the ducks in the pond were in the exact same position).
It didn’t work.
Nope, not a week passed before the disgusting green algae that was the problem before Trump promised to fix it came back…with a vengeance. It’s considered that painting the pool a dark blue caused more heat, which increased the rate of algae growth. This is what happens when you don’t have any actual scientists in your administration.
There are a boatload of jokes running wild on social media now about this, including my own, which claims that the pool really IS “American Flag Blue” as seen in this comparison:
So naturally, I wanted to proclaim that “Trump said he’d drain the swamp, but of course, since the opposite is always true, he actually created one!”
And CNN beat me to it. https://www.rawstory.com/reflecting-pool-drain-the-swap/
Phooey.
Your thoughts…
Please note—Mike’s Substack is free and always will be. The only thing I want to charge for are my books, which you could do me the honor of purchasing from time to time (for yourself, for a friend or loved one…I’m not choosy).
AND HEY - I’ve got a new one coming out at the end of the month!
You’ll find everything at the link below, or ask your local bookstore if I’m in stock (and if not, they can order any of them through Ingram):
And in case you’ve gotten this far without being a subscriber…

I laughed all the way through this, thanks for the read... XD
